About Us
African women weaving a just
world for people & nature
WoMin
WoMin is a Pan African ecofeminist alliance that partners with women and communities impacted by extractivist-driven development, the climate, and interlocking crises. We bring attention to the harmful effects of extractivism on African peasant and working-class women, and we actively support women in building movements that champion a post-extractivist, ecologically just, and women-centred future for Africa. Committed to being true allies of grassroots movements, we prioritise this across all our efforts.
Our Vision
WoMin envisions an Africa where women, particularly those from peasant and working-class backgrounds, live in harmony with nature and enjoy full rights and freedoms. We see a future where extractivist practices are replaced by sustainable, ecologically-just, and women-centred development alternatives. In this vision, African women lead the way in creating and sustaining communities that are free from exploitation, environmental degradation, and social injustices. We aspire to a continent where women’s voices are central in decision-making processes and where their contributions to building a fair and equitable society are recognised and valued.
Our Mission
WoMin’s mission is to support and amplify the voices of African women, particularly those from peasant and working-class backgrounds, who are impacted by extractivism. We strive to make visible the harmful effects of extractivism and advocate for an African post-extractivist, ecologically-just, and women-centred development model. Through allyship and solidarity, we empower women’s organising and movement-building efforts. Our work is dedicated to fostering sustainable and just alternatives that prioritise the well-being of women, communities, and the environment.

Our Values
At WoMin, we support and stand in solidarity with grassroots movements, organisations and community formations led by and that centre African women on the frontlines of resisting extractivism. We value the diversity of African women’s experiences in the fight for environmental and other forms of justice. We advocate for development alternatives formed and crafted by communities on the ground to ensure the wellbeing of them and future generations. We emphasise ecofeminism as a connection between environmental sustainability, stewardship and survival, and women’s rights.
WoMin strives to build a truly ecofeminist organisation characterised by care, respect, justice, equity, freedom, and non-violence. These are the values and principles which guide our political work. This work is ongoing and is supported by an internal coordination team and the WoMin Board.
